New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence Honors ENMU-Roswell Nursing Graduate

The New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence has recognized an ENMU-Roswell nursing graduate for her accomplishments. Fallon Evans Moody received the Nightingale Award in a virtual ceremony held by the organization on November 14. The award exemplifies outstanding and caring leadership and professionalism as a beginning practitioner in the first 18 months as a registered nurse. Moody graduated from the ENMU-Roswell Nursing Program in May of 2019. She currently works in the nursery at Lovelace Regional Hospital in Roswell.

Moody said her unit director nominated her for the Nightingale Award and she was surprised when her name was announced during the online ceremony on Saturday. She said she and her husband were excited about the recognition. “I am very humbled and blessed to receive this. It was not expected.” Moody said her mom was a nurse, so she was exposed to the medical field all her life and that made her want to be a nurse as well. After graduating from Gateway Christian School, she attended UNM in Albuquerque for a year. She didn’t enjoy the big city life and missed the hometown feeling and her family. She transferred to ENMU-Roswell after hearing about the great reputation of the nursing program. “I was absolutely well prepared. I owe a lot to my instructors and I couldn’t have asked for a better education,” she said. “I felt very supported. I liked the small class sizes and I felt the instructors really cared about the success of the students.”

Now 22, Moody is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing and working long hours during this very challenging time in healthcare. She said there are a lot of babies being delivered and expects to see even more in January and March of next year. “Speaking for a lot of nurses, we are burnt out and tired and we seem to be dealing with something new every time we go to work. But we are all mainly concerned with patient care and will do what’s best while very closely monitoring ourselves.”

“I am so proud of my former nursing student, Fallon Moody,” said Candi Miller Morris, Nursing Clinical instructor.  “This award is well deserved.  She was an excellent student and has become an excellent nurse. She exemplifies the nurse we strive to produce over the course of our program. She is caring, compassionate and extremely smart. She never hesitates to reach out and help others. My heartfelt congratulations go out to her!”

Since 2005, the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence has had the honor of hosting the New Mexico Nursing Excellence Awards. This annual awards ceremony recognizes excellence in nursing practice and honors nurses for the contributions they make to their organizations, communities, and to the state. Created by nurses for nurses, the Nursing Excellence Awards have honored over 2,500 New Mexico nurse nominees since it began. Proceeds from the Nursing Excellence Awards support the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence and its mission.

  • Please meet with the Program Director or Academic Advisor for your declared major prior to graduation to ensure you have met all requirements to complete your certificate/degree, including any course substitutions you may need. A list of advisors can be found on the home page under Current Students, Advising Services. Advisors can be reached by calling Advising Services at (575) 624-7294.  Running a degree evaluation will also help you see the requirements for your degree.  The evaluation is available on your CosmoLink under “CAPP – Degree Evaluation”.

  • If there have been changes to your personal information, such as a change of address, phone number or name change, please complete a Change Form found under the Records tab on the homepage. It is very important that we have current and correct information in our records.

  • Log into your Self-Service Banner account to check for holds. Official transcripts can also be accepted by Parchment if the school you requested the transcript from uses this service.  You may bring your official transcripts to the Student Services Building and put them in the drop box by the main entrance. The transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the school.  If the seal is broken, the transcript is no longer considered official and will not be accepted to satisfy the requirement of submitting official transcripts. If your transcript is sent with courses in progress, it will be considered an unofficial transcript.  If you have questions about submitting transcripts, please contact the office of Admissions and Records at (575) 624-7141.

If you have any questions regarding graduation, call (575) 624-7341 or email ruth.d’arezzo@roswell.enmu.edu. We look forward to working with you as you complete your degree at Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell!

Bond Issue Funding to Enhance Campus Safety and Security

In the November 3 General Election, voters will be asked to invest in the state’s 33 public colleges, universities and specialty schools in 23 cities and 21 counties across New Mexico. General Obligation Bond C (also referred to as Higher Education Bond C) will provide $156,000,000 to renovate and modernize educational facilities.  If approved by voters statewide, Bond C will provide money to accomplish this goal by not increasing property taxes (as verified by the New Mexico State Department of Finance and Administration). For more information, go to www.bondc4nm.com

Approval of Bond C will mean an allocation of $1.85 million for ENMU-Roswell, which will fund needed safety and security upgrades to video surveillance equipment and exterior lighting. NMMI would receive $3 million for the renovation of roofs for Wilson Hall, Godfrey Athletic Center, and Toles Learning Center. ENMU in Portales would receive $8 million for phase one renovations of Roosevelt Science Hall and safety upgrades. ENMU in Ruidoso would receive $1.5 million for campus infrastructure improvements.

Also, passage of Bond C is estimated to create approximately 1,500 new jobs in construction, architecture and related fields statewide, adding to the state’s economic development and gross receipts tax revenue. Bond C will help maintain the educational institutions New Mexicans have already invested in, and give colleges and universities the resources needed to continue providing a safe, quality educational environment.

On the Roswell campus, the majority of the existing 75 video surveillance cameras are old analog cameras that do not provide image quality to today’s standards. Most of the buildings on campus have minimal or no camera coverage at all. Funds would be used to replace the majority of existing cameras and install 350 new cameras, with additional servers, monitors, storage hardware, and infrastructure.

The existing exterior lighting fixtures are old and not as energy efficient as they could be. In many areas, the lighting level is not adequate for the protection of property and the security and safety of students, staff, visitors. Plans call for the replacement of all exterior lighting fixtures with LED fixtures, which will significantly improve visibility without increasing wattage. Light poles that are rusted, deteriorated and pose a danger of falling during a high wind event would be replaced. Improving the exterior lighting will also help provide better images for the planned exterior surveillance cameras, as well as save energy and reduce operational and maintenance costs.

Library Bond Issue B will provide $9.5 million for public, academic, tribal, and public school libraries across the state. If Bond B is approved by voters, academic libraries will receive much needed funding to support the success of college and university students in New Mexico by providing 24/7 access to quality resources and information. There will be no tax increase if Bond B is approved, generating more than $228 thousand for libraries in Chaves County, including $23,973 for ENMU-Roswell.

Absentee voting begins October 6 and early voting starts October 17. Absentee ballots can be requested from October 6-20 and ballots must be returned by November 3 at 7 p.m.  Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open for in-person voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
